Showpo takes fashiontech to the next level with new colour changing dress
Showpo’s success and the drive of its founder Jane Lu has been a popular story among the tech community. Many can relate to Lu’s beginnings of leaving her well paying job and starting a business from nothing. Lu has become a self made millionaire and her startup continues to climb, turning over more than $10 million a year and selling to over 45 countries around the world.
While we know Showpo for its millennial fashion and social media presence, Lu has been working behind the scenes on something that is sure to turn heads.
Yesterday Lu posted to Facebook a live video of her latest fashion design- a dress that changes colour in the blink of an eye.
“I’ve got something really, really exciting to show you that I’ve been working on for a while now,” said Lu to the camera. “This is going to be next level.”
The camera turns to introduce Victoria, the model. She is wearing a white dress and Lu calls over her team to select a colour on an iPad app. Lu suggests pink and within a second the model’s dress changes to pink.
Cue screaming and shock from both the model and on-lookers. The dress continues to change to blue and then purple- whatever is picked on the colour wheel.
This may be revolutionary and is sure to transform Showpo from an online women’s fashion retailer and into a serious tech innovator. Showpo is a startup that the industry along with fashionistas will be definitely keeping their eyes on.
The possibilities of this tech is endless, owning one simple dress instead of many, changing its colour from corporate black during the day to party pink at night. What this tech involves is still unknown. Lu is yet to make any media announcements, so we will just have to wait and see.
The Australian fashiontech industry has produced a wealth of startups from Shoes of Prey to Fame and Partners and HUMM. Fashion startups are not only looking to change fashion, but they are looking to change the way retailers run their businesses. Showpo is clearly looking at both sides, using social media to market and now focusing on tech and wearables to transform style and fashion.
This is just a sneak peek of what’s to come from Showpo, and if you’re not convinced, watch the video below.
