Salesforce appoints Mark Innes as first general manager for Asia Pacific region

American customer relationship management (CRM) company Salesforce has today announced the appointment of Mark Innes as its general manager for the Asia Pacific.

In this newly created role within the company, Innes will be responsible for the growth of the company within the Asia Pacific region, assisting customers from a diverse range of industries and backgrounds with their business transformations through the use of Salesforce’s various CRM platforms.

This is the latest move made by Salesforce with the aim of deepening its commitment to the Asia Pacific. As home to rapidly growing international marketplaces, within them numerous startups and companies seeking expansion into the global market, the Asia Pacific region is an important market for Salesforce to explore.

Innes, with over 30 years of experience working in various industries including global finance and telecommunications, said he was thrilled to be taking on the role within the Asia Pacific, one of the fastest growing cloud markets, and help Salesforce capitalise on the opportunities in the region.

“Salesforce is uniquely positioned to help companies across the region connect with customers in entirely new ways,” Innes said.

Innes joined Salesforce in 2012, and was the senior vice president of enterprise business in Australia and New Zealand until 2014 when the division was expanded to the entire APAC region.

He helped lead Salesforce’s work with some of its biggest customers in the region, including Australia Post, Changi Airport, Cochlear, the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, and the Siam Commercial Bank.

Vice chairman, president, and COO of Salesforce Keith Block, welcomed the appointment, saying there is a race to the top around transformation and in the age of the customer, the Asia Pacific is no exception.  

“Every company is looking for ways to put customers at the centre of their business and Mark’s leadership and proven track record of customer success will accelerate our ability to deliver Asia Pacific’s next decade of growth,” Block said.

The appointment comes at a time when the international business landscape is increasingly looking at the Asia Pacific region, with China in particular a key market. There is a significant opportunity for companies like Salesforce to tap into this growth and address the needs of Australian and other Asia Pacific businesses looking to accelerate their growth.

This focus on the Asia Pacific for Salesforce in particular makes sense as the company’s revenue across the region in the first quarter of the 2017 fiscal year increased by 29 percent.

As well as bigger enterprise clients, Salesforce is also looking to startups, last year partnering with nonprofit organisation StartupAus to accelerate the growth of the Australian startup ecosystem by providing companies with infrastructure that can help them with customer relationship management. Of course, this partnership also allows Salesforce to keep an eye on companies emerging within the startup landscape that they could collaborate or otherwise work with.
