“Stream” Unlimited with any TV

We love dongles. Especially when they give devices a new lease on life. Quickflix & Kogan have partnered up to create just such a dongle, which turns any TV with a HDMI input into a Smart TV which can stream movies on the cheap and even run Android apps.

“The Quickflix partnership with Kogan means that the affordable streaming entertainment is now available for all Australians regardless of their budget and without the need for a set top box,” the two Australian companies said in a joint statement.

“We are bringing to market a whole new experience for householders without Pay TV.”

For only $99, the HDMI dongle comes with Wifi, Quicklix and Android built-in, and allows users to choose either subscription or pay-per-play payment options. Quickflix’ $14.99 unlimited streaming option is our pick for value, especially when compared to iTunes Australia’s $5.99 asking price for a new release film (based on the current iTunes top 10 movies).

Being able to turn a HDTV into a Wifi-enabled, Android Smart TV is also a great opportunity to repurpose huge TV screens into presentation devices, giant digital calendar boards and other business-related tools – since they are able to run apps from Google Play for Android.

The dongle will be on sale “within weeks” according to Kogan, and will be available to purchase at
